March 9 marks the day our spring sports teams kicked off their practices. School spirit is high, with a large hope for success this 2026 season. So far, we’ve had some highs and lows, but across the board, it’s clear the teams are anticipating a winning and sportsmanlike season.
The majority of the PDS teams held their first practices on our campus and played their scrimmages against the other local teams. The baseball team, however, took a different route. The team spent a week in Port St. Lucie, Florida during spring break. The team had a week of long practices in hot, humid weather, went up against schools they had never heard of before, and most importantly, strengthened their bond and dynamic through team building activities. Junior Bailey Mitra, a member of PDS’s varsity baseball team, reflected on the growth he expects from the baseball team this year. He shared, “Our first couple games didn’t go exactly how we wanted them to…That said, I think the spring break trip underscored the talent that this team possesses, and our future is really bright now that we’ve gotten our footing.”
Coming back to campus, our girls lacrosse teams hit the field running with a win against West Windsor Plainsboro South. With a promising start, the team is set for a positive trajectory this current season. Along with their games, the practice environment of the team is filled with hard work, kindness, and sportsmanship. Junior Talia Berkman was a new addition to the team this year; she verbalized the kind and welcoming feelings she felt upon going to her first practice: “The team is super energetic and fun to be around. They really created a safe space for me to learn and grow.”
From just the first few practices, it’s already clear that the team dynamics are strong across all spring sports teams. Regardless of records and scores, it’s evidently clear that student athletes are gaining important skills that will translate throughout their playing this season.
