For spring break, some students may go on a trip. Other students go out with their peers. But a few weeks ago, the Princeton Day School Baseball team did both, spending their two weeks off thousands of miles away in Florida, getting ready for their spring sports season. Their time away was marked by intense training and joyful moments alike, ensuring they were ready in every way possible for the months ahead.
On a day-to-day basis, head coach Eric Schnepf would conduct games and practices for the squad. As every drill was done, players had the chance to familiarize themselves with the flow of the game in a low-stakes environment. It was beneficial too, with freshman player Mack Chiavarone mentioning that he could try out new techniques while competing in scrimmages against teammates. “There was certainly a lot of skill building, and practices allowed everyone an opportunity to do exactly that.”
When not in the middle of the game, the team made sure to give themselves time away from the field to connect with each other and make memories together. Chiavarone recalls that the team was able to create countless special moments through small activities like mini golf and ice cream runs. . Similarly, Coach Schnepf noted that it “definitely strengthened the team’s bond and got them ready for the season.”
With that being said, the spring sports season is underway, and the PDS Baseball team has hit the ground running. By spending time training before their first official matches, Coach Schnepf hopes that his team has what it takes to overcome obstacles and compete on the field with their best effort. Through their hours of training, dozens of scrimmages, and an enjoyable trip to motivate the team, the players are ready to make every run count.
