This year, PDS held its annual ski trip at Blue Mountain, where 50 PDS students skied and snowboarded on February 22. The trip was first organized four years ago by Rohan Shah, and now it has become a tradition PDS students look forward to each winter. Whether you are new to getting on the mountain or a pro at skiing or snowboarding, this trip is for you! Senior Charlie Kaplowitz reported, “Around half of the students who attended were beginners interested in trying the sport. Afterwards, they all told me that they had a lot of fun learning and trying new trails.” While trying a new sport like this can seem daunting, being surrounded by friends will make the experience less stressful or scary and a lot more fun.
Although originally scheduled for February 7, there were complications. Kaplowitz, who organized the trip, explained, “ The biggest challenge we faced when planning this trip was the weather. We initially had to cancel the trip due to dangerously cold weather.” The change in dates caused some confusion leading to the original 70 participants to become 50. However, the improved conditions made rescheduling the trip well worth it, and the students made great memories.
The ski trip was filled with fun moments, good food, and, of course, great skiing and snowboarding. Junior Zarna Kalra expressed how even the simple moments became a highlight of the night, sharing, “One of my favorite parts of the trip was the chairlift rides with my friends. We got to talk, take pictures, make jokes, and laugh.” Kaplowitz also described a moment with friends: “One fun memory I have from the trip was finding a little alcove with a beautiful view at the edge of the mountain on one of the trails. At this alcove, my friends and I decided to eat dinner on top of the mountain with a beautiful view of the night lights and the horizon.” In addition to scenic dinners, the waffle hut was also a hidden gem on the mountain for students who wanted to grab a snack.
Overall, the ski trip was filled with fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories. So, if you didn’t make it this year, make sure to sign up next winter!
