The time has come for seniors at PDS to finish up their classes and embark on their final high school endeavor: the senior project. This longstanding tradition serves as an opportunity for seniors to focus on one major creative assignment of their choice. While it is a graduation requirement, it is intended to mitigate the feeling of burnout that is very common among high school seniors after the college application process is complete. Seniors this year have landed on a variety of amazing ideas for their projects, and are excited to dive into them as the school year comes to a close.
Senior Luke Nolte will combine his passions for music and content creation by creating a Youtube channel. “I’m going to be posting music reviews to Youtube,” said Nolte. He plans to share his insight on popular songs to the internet, and will both appreciate and analyze various works. Nolte reflected on his musical background, “I’m the music columnist for the newspaper, and I play the trombone.” As a seasoned musician, he is excited to focus on this art form for the next few months.
For his project, Senior Carter Malin is planning to construct a small public library, where people can “take a book and leave a book.” He shared that his goal with this project is to make reading and learning more accessible. Malin explained that this project would allow him to utilize his woodworking skills and ignite his love for reading. He expands, “I will work independently on my project, yet I will consult with Mr. Mahar on how to safely use woodworking equipment.” The funds for this project will be raised through Malin’s church, where he will donate the finished product.
As their classes come to a close, PDS seniors are going to begin their own unique and creative journeys. Whether they involve service to the community or exploring a student’s creative mind, each project is sure to be special.
