Kicks or Bricks: The Basketball Players of PDS’s Opinions

Every athlete knows the expression, “When you look good, you play good,” whether that means neat hair, accessories, or shoes. In the newest segment of my fashion column, I present to you, Kicks or Bricks: Shoe game at none other than our very own Princeton Day School.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have interviewed several players from the Boys Varsity Basketball Team. As someone who is up to date on all the fashion trends, Sophomore Jordan Owens stated, “Top three shoes right now are: Ja Morant 1s, Kevin Durant 16s, and GT Cut 1s.” Owens continues, “Any Curry [Steph] and Lebron shoe are not in whatsoever.” In 2016, Under Armour shares dropped more than 5 percent over concerns that Steph Curry’s basketball shoes were not selling well, according to Nick Turner of Bloomberg Business.

Freshman Gary “Champ” Jennings is regularly informed of the most recently launched sneakers. He voices, “Shoes that just aren’t tough are: Shaqs, An1s, and especially Curries. [Laughter] My dream shoe to wear is the Grinches, even though they are very expensive.” The Grinch shoes that Jennings references are approximately $800- $1000, depending on the level of authenticity.

Lastly, Sophomore Daniel “Danny” Rozenblat expresses, “Kobe’s are always in AR1s, people always like Nike shoes.” Ever since the creation of Nike, society has always appreciated both their quality and style. The overlap between Jordan, Gary, and Danny’s responses demonstrates how much basketball players have a sense of fondness for the well-crafted shoes.

Throughout this article, one fact has been made absolutely clear: Kobe shoes are currently in fashion, and those are not my words, but opinions from the very reliable players of Princeton Day School’s Boys Varsity Basketball team. See you next time on Kicks or Bricks!
