The Princeton Day School Girls’ Ice Hockey Team experienced a remarkable season this year, ending with a significant victory against Morristown Beard School in the Librera Cup Championship on February 14.

As the championship game approached, anticipation soared, and the team found themselves immersed in excitement. The arena buzzed with energy as PDS scored the first goal, marking the beginning of the game with a surge of cheers. Following that, PDS dominated with three quick goals on MoBeard. “We worked more as a team, and it felt like a fun friend group, especially during that game,” emphasized senior Logan Harrison, one of the captains on the team. Amidst the roars of cheers and celebratory moments, Harrison highlighted a crucial aspect that fueled their triumph. “When we scored, they [MoBeard] scored right after, but we didn’t give up. We just continued as a team,” she explained. The unwavering support and perseverance of the team significantly contributed to their victory despite the challenges that the team faced.

Senior player Izzy Cook also resonated with the close-knit nature of the team that extends beyond the rink. The preseason efforts, from captain practices to team activities and dinners, laid the foundation for a connected and close group, more like a family. The team’s strength, from the contributions of strong players to the vibrancy of the freshman, added to their collective effort. Their long-time rivalry with MoBeard further added an extra layer of intensity to their win, as Cook reflected on key moments, including previous losses to MoBeard. “This time, the mindset shifted. We felt like we had nothing to lose,” she remarked. In those moments, the team’s collective determination and changed mindset propelled them towards this victory.

The Librera Cup championship win not only signifies a triumphant moment for the PDS community, but also establishes a solid foundation for the team’s promising future. It is the connections and bonds formed not only through victories, but by a shared passion and unwavering support for each other, that propelled them through this extraordinary and unforgettable season.
