One of the several beloved teachers we will be saying farewell to at the end of this school year is Mr. Paul Brewer. Known to some as a man with a successful career in finance, known to others as a passionate mathematics and economics teacher, and known to all as a dedicated mentor— Mr. Brewer will surely be missed by the PDS community!
He first came to PDS at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, as a part-time economics teacher, following the retirement of the previous longtime economics teacher. Eventually, he joined our community as a full-time economics and math teacher. Though his career was initially in finance, Mr. Brewer has always loved teaching and had always planned to finish out his career with a teaching role. He decided that “PDS was the perfect fit for [him]” to do just that! He noted that what he especially loves about working at PDS is the opportunity to develop relationships with the students— he called the students of PDS “a terrific group of young people” with whom he has “enjoyed every minute of his time with.”
Not only does Mr. Brewer teach academic classes here at PDS, but he also mentors groups of students through extracurricular activities. He serves as the faculty advisor to both the Entrepreneurship and Finance Clubs. He has supported these two clubs in an array of ways— whether it be through setting up meetings with guest speakers, speaking about his own experiences and career lessons, or chaperoning and planning trips to Atlantic City for business competitions. His club members know him to be a devoted mentor with a genuine passion for interacting with and supporting his students.
At the close of this school year, Mr. Brewer plans to take some personal time. He is excited to spend time with his family and to pick up reading again. Even when he is not working, Mr. Brewer loves reading literature related to history, math, and economics.
Though he will no longer officially be a teacher at PDS, Mr. Brewer will always be a part of the PDS community. His teachings and passion will always ring true in the halls of PDS— and he lives right around the corner! Really, this isn’t a goodbye to Mr. Brewer, it’s a “see you soon!”
