It was the week before Spring Break, and tensions were high. Not because spring sports had just started their seasons, or because every teacher was trying to cram in one last test before the students left; rather, the talk of the town was the upcoming Junior vs. Senior Basketball Game.
Proposed by the Junior Class Officers and implemented by the Junior and Senior Student Councils, the game took place on March 14 during Community Block and was a huge hit. Junior Class Officer Rhea Ajmera said she was surprised by both the number of upperclassmen that played and the number of underclassmen that came out to watch the game, “When we were organizing it we didn’t expect it to be that big of a turnout. We were really happy that there were lots of grades involved: it wasn’t just juniors and seniors; freshmen stopped by, sophomores stopped by.” Due to the number of people present, the atmosphere was electric: as the players yelled at each other on the court, the crowd was cheering, and the voices of the announcers boomed on the speakers.
The game itself started off slowly. Through the first few minutes of the first half, only one basket was scored. However, after the teams started to warm up a bit, things got rolling. There were many exciting moments: senior Adam Stewart showed off with two dunks, while the juniors did a good job moving the ball around and consistently making their way to the basket.
In the end, the seniors emerged victorious, winning the game by a mere basket. When speaking about the win, senior Rohan Shah praised his team’s performance, “It was a team effort. We just have a solid amount of talent, and we were moving the ball nicely, getting everyone involved.”
As for what went wrong for the juniors, coach Danny Rozenblat’s answer was simple: “We didn’t execute.” While they were on the wrong side of the scoreboard this year, maybe they will get their redemption next year, when they match up against the Class of 2027. As for now, however, they will simply have to deal with being the losers, while the seniors savor their win.
