As the spring trimester approaches, an exciting new sports season begins, bringing opportunities and change. PDS welcomes two new coaches joining the golf and boys’ lacrosse programs this year. Additionally, as teams look forward to the start of their season, many are beginning their preseason.
The boys’ lacrosse team is looking forward to getting to know their new coach and developing great team chemistry. They hope to continue working on fundamentals and become even stronger. In order to achieve this goal, both boys and girls lacrosse are doing an offseason lift in preparation for March 10th, the start of the season. The girl’s lacrosse team is also hoping to secure the Prep B Championship trophy. Many other teams will begin preseason during the second week of spring break.
While PDS’s skating team does not have a preseason because of ice time issues, that does not stop them from getting ready for a great season and a beautiful final showcase. In order to prepare, they are already choosing their songs for their solos. Even though skating is an individual sport, working together is still important.
Fostering a great team bond is a goal for the track team this season. The track team is growing and has gone from a team with 18 athletes to 70. It can be hard to have a close-knit community with such a large team, but Coach Adams hopes that the team will not only be strong on the track but off the track as well. “I hope that as a team we continue to encourage, support, and challenge each other to reach our personal goals and that it leads to a great team bond and Track & Field community/family,” he said.
PDS’s Athletic Director Katie Fay encourages all athletes to be dedicated to their team. “It’s important for athletes to realize that their actions impact their teammates, even in sports that are considered more individualistic like tennis, golf, and track.” Even though it can be difficult to balance school and athletics, it is important to show up to practice and put in the effort, which will help not only the team, but also individual athletes.
All teams are excited to get to know each other and work together to become great athletes. During the spring sports season, PDS teams will have the chance to compete in CVC, Prep, and State championships. Let’s get excited to start the spring sports season!
