Favorite TV Show: Once Upon A Time
December 3, 2015
In the town of Storybrooke, Maine, live all your favorite fairytale characters, but here’s the twist: none of the inhabitants know their true identity. We all know the age-old story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves; Snow White is the “fairest of them all,” causing the Evil Queen to become jealous and poison her with an apple. However, in current television’s Once Upon a Time’s version, the traditional tale is altered. In this show, Snow White has destroyed the Evil Queen’s happiness, and ever since then, the Queen has dedicated her life to exacting revenge.
In order to destroy Snow White, the Evil Queen must seek out sorcerer Rumpelstiltskin, who gives her a dark curse that is designed to transport them all to another land, where only she, the Evil Queen, will be happy. To protect the kingdom from the Queen, Snow White and Prince Charming visit the imprisoned Rumpelstiltskin, as he can see into the future. Rumpelstiltskin agrees to tell them the future in exchange for the name of their unborn child (Emma Swan). He informs them that the Evil Queen is going to cast a dark and malicious curse that will make time stop, and the residents of the Enchanted Forest will be trapped forever! But there is hope, for on their child’s 28th birthday, the Evil Queen will find them and break the curse.
Fortunately, unlike her parents, Emma was not cursed. Emma was sent through a magical wardrobe into our world where she grew up as an orphan and never had a family. However, this all changed when, on her 28th birthday, a boy named Henry shows up. Henry drags Emma all the way from Boston to where he lives, Storybrooke, Maine. There, he is the adopted son of the mayor, who is coincidentally the Evil Queen. It is up to Henry to make Emma believe that all the fairytales are true so she can break the curse.
Once Upon a Time has some of the most twisted and complicated story lines that I have ever seen in a show. And trust me, I’ve seen a lot! Each episode is packed with witty one-liners, flashbacks to your favorite fairytale characters, and so much more.
