The Teacher Awards are always an exciting event for faculty and students. Every year, Student Council conducts surveys, inviting Upper School students to nominate teachers for various awards. This tradition allows students to personally honor the teachers they appreciate most. A diverse range of awards are presented annually – many of which are lighthearted and bring smiles to the community.
Dr. Latham, the English Department Chair and one of this year’s award winners, said: “I think the Teacher Awards are a fun tradition that gets the whole community involved. I was excited this year to receive the Best Class award.” She further shared how the recognition affirmed the care and passion she put into designing her (His)tory in Film and Literature elective.
Additionally, many other teachers from different departments also received awards. Dr. Gadd, a teacher in the science department, remarked, “The Teacher Awards are a wonderful tradition, both fun and rewarding. I am honored to have won the Most Organized Teacher award.” As the sole instructor and primary curriculum organizer of the PDS Honors Chemistry course, a class well known for its rigor, it was heartwarming to see his dedication recognized.
Students also shared their thoughts on this annual custom. Sophomore Jasper Mackey commented, “It was fun seeing the teachers I liked getting different awards. I think the Student Council did a great job keeping the Teacher Awards interesting this year!”
Overall, both students and teachers look forward to gathering every year for this special event. As an event organized by the Upper School Student Council, the various awards continue to celebrate the unique contributions of PDS faculty. Hopefully, this tradition of honoring our teachers will continue for years to come!
