As the fall sports season came to a close and the end of the semester drew near, the Student Council hosted an exciting pep rally in the Upper Gym during community block. The event brought the Upper School together, encouraging school spirit and camaraderie.
The rally featured a competitive and fun game of musical dots, in which each house—the Stockton Scarletts, Mercer Magentas, Broadmead Royals, and Green Greats—was well-represented. Student Council worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the event’s success, creating an atmosphere that was engaging, inclusive, and energizing for the Upper School community.
Throughout the rally, Student Council members and House Cup leaders hyped up the crowd, encouraging active participation from students. The music played during the game was carefully chosen to represent a diverse range of genres that kept the energy high. “It was pretty engaging for students to cheer on their friends, and it was a great addition to our House Cup competition,” said Umang Sharma, the Student Council Secretary-Treasurer. “Our MC, [Student Life Cohead] Gabby [Kratee], did an amazing job hyping the student section and interviewing participants.”
A unique feature of this year’s pep rally was the use of floor dots instead of chairs, a thoughtful choice that ensured the game would run smoothly and safely. “The use of dots compared to chairs was also an addition to this year, ensuring more participant safety, and it worked amazingly,” Sharma explained.
The event’s success was the result of the careful planning and teamwork by the Student Council. The council’s faculty advisor Ms. Manners shared a glimpse of the preparation involved: “For even the most simple-sounding activities, there are a million things that have to happen in the background—from getting approval and filling out forms to clarifying rules and finding participants. We wanted something fun and dynamic, and I’m really pleased with the result. The participants had fun, the MC was masterful, and most importantly, everyone came out in one piece!”
This year’s rally greatly contributed to the broader House Cup tournament, introduced just last year, adding an extra layer of excitement and competition among the students. Student Council is eager to hear from students about what they’d like to see next. “If you ever have suggestions for events or anything you’d like to see, fill out our feedback forms posted on Schoology,” Sharma encouraged. With student input, the council hopes to continue creating memorable and engaging events for our school community.
