PDS welcomes Dr. Jackie Blum this year as a new member of the science department. She teaches AP Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, and REx, a course in which students learn about scientific research and gain experience through a summer internship at an outside institution
Dr. Blum has always loved chemistry, which led her to become a high school teacher. Before coming to PDS, Dr. Blum taught at Montclair Kimberley Academy, teaching AP Chemistry and science research. She began looking for jobs in schools around Princeton as she wanted to move closer to the area. When she went to interview at PDS, she immediately felt drawn to the school. She recounted, “I had such a good feeling when I came for my interview.” She remembers loving the beautiful campus and feeling that the faculty were all experienced and skilled. She could see herself teaching at this school. “[Everyone] was joyful,” she explained, “I just had a good gut feeling.”
At PDS, Dr. Blum was immediately welcomed by the community. She detailed, “All my colleagues have been very helpful and supportive.” Her favorite part of PDS is her students as well as the other faculty. She has loved taking the time to get to know everyone and become more familiar with the school.
Despite loving her time at PDS, Dr. Blum is still adjusting to life here. One of her biggest challenges was the schedule. It took her some time to get used to the less regular classes and constantly shifting periods. Additionally, it always takes some time to get used to teaching new classes. However, she has found her footing now and is excited for the future.
Dr. Blum is most excited to “continue to grow” here at PDS as an educator and a person. Additionally, she is looking forward to feeling more confident and adjusted, hoping to “feel more like I know what’s going on.” We wish Dr. Blum the best of luck as she embarks on her journey at Princeton Day School!
