With a warm smile that lights up the room and a passion for teaching that is palpable, Ms. Schomburg has undoubtedly become well-loved by students. Ms. Schomburg’s connection to PDS runs deep as a “lifer” and having graduated from PDS. After completing undergraduate studies at Connecticut College, she had the opportunity to return to PDS as a teacher through her graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her master’s degree.
During her two years at PDS, Ms. Schomburg taught 9th grade Biology and also took on several other roles including serving as an advisor, coaching JV lacrosse and middle school field hockey, and advising the GAINS club and Energy and Climate Scholars. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom, and was deeply felt by the students.
Outside the classroom Ms. Schomburg has a passion for cooking, sports, yoga, and spending time outdoors. These hobbies reflect her energetic and vibrant personality, qualities she brought into her teaching and coaching roles, making learning both engaging and fun for her students.
Reflecting on her time at PDS, Ms. Schomburg recalls Blue and White Day as her favorite PDS memory, a tradition she cherished both as a student and as a teacher. “Being out on the fields with some healthy competition and strong school spirit is so special” she says, adding enthusiastically, “Go Blue!” As she prepares to leave PDS, Ms. Schomburg shares that she will miss her colleagues in the science department and the friendships she has forged. She will also miss her “goofball students” but assures them she will return to visit, keeping the PDS community close to her heart.
Looking ahead, Ms. Schomburg is excited to embark on a new adventure teaching at a boarding school outside of Boston. Despite the change, she affirms, “Once a panther, always a panther.” Her parting words of wisdom to PDS students are heartfelt: “It might not seem like it now, but you’ll miss this place once you graduate. Enjoy your time here and appreciate the opportunity to study surrounded by such amazing peers and teachers.” From a PDS student to a beloved teacher, Ms. Schomburg’s presence and her vibrant smile will be greatly missed.
